THE MINDFUL RESET

In collaboration with West London NHS Trust, Footesteps Foundation is proud to present The Mindful Reset Pilot for social & healthcare staff.
WHAT IS THE MINDFUL RESET?
Rooted in proven techniques like Mindfulness and Non-Sleep Deep Rest (NSDR), these guided practices have been created especially to help you recharge, realign, and reset - giving you the clarity and calm to meet the rest of your shift with greater presence and focus.
MINDFULNESS
Mindfulness is the intentional practice of paying attention to the present moment with a gentle, open, and non-judgmental attitude. By cultivating awareness of thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations, mindfulness helps reduce stress, improve focus, and promote emotional balance, mental clarity, and overall wellbeing. Practiced regularly, it supports a calmer, more centred, and resilient mind
NSDR
NSDR is a systematic practice using breathing and relaxation techniques to help your body and mind slow down while you remain fully awake. By activating the parasympathetic nervous system, it encourages a natural state of calm—reducing stress and anxiety, easing muscle tension, lowering heart and breathing rates, and supporting the body’s restorative processes. With regular practice, it can even support improved sleep.
HOW IT WORKS

The sessions last between 10–15 minutes. You’ll be given this time in addition to your normal breaks.

Each of the 6 pre-recorded sessions will be released weekly for you to practice during your extended break, and you will also be able to use them at home.

The intention is for you to remain awake and aware throughout, while your body enjoys deep rest and restoration.

The programme is tailored for shift workers, specifically night staff.​

Lastly, the pilot will run for 12 weeks starting from Wednesday, 14th May 2025.

We hope to use your responses to build a strong case for rolling this programme out wider - bringing its benefits to more shift workers and, ultimately, to all the people you support.

SESSION 1

Mindfulness - Arriving in the Moment
A grounding practice that invites you to come into the present with gentle awareness. Using breath and a body scan, you’ll reconnect with stillness and inner space. Ideal for calming the mind mid-shift.
SESSION 2

Non-Sleep Deep Rest - Resting While Awake
This NSDR-based session helps you recharge without sleep by guiding you into a state of conscious relaxation. Features a flowing body scan and some visualisation. A deeply restorative pause while staying fully awake.
SESSION 3

Rest & Refresh - Recharging Mid-Shift
Feel energised and lightened with this recharging practice. Designed to lift and refresh, it uses soft breathwork, body awareness and visualisation to bring you back to a sense of clarity.
SESSION 4

Focus - Returning to Steadiness
This practice anchors your attention through breath, body awareness, and subtle visualisation. It's designed to help restore clarity when your focus drifts, offering a return to calm, centred presence.
SESSION 5

Clarity - A Fresh Perspective
Let go of mental clutter and access a sense of openness and clarity. With a gentle body scan, warm/cool opposites and visualisation, this session helps clear the mind and refresh your perspective.
SESSION 6

Calm — A Quiet Space Within
A deeply restful close to the series, this practice draws you inward through sense withdrawal, body rotation and peaceful visualisation, reconnecting you with a steady inner calm you can carry into any moment.
REMINDER
Please complete questionnaire 2 after the 6 sessions and then questionnaire 3 at the end of the 12 weeks, when you have revised the sessions in your own time.
